The county seat of Wilson County, Tennessee is Lebanon. With a population of almost 40,000 recorded in 2020, it sits roughly 25 miles east of downtown Nashville.

History

Lebanon, Tennessee traces its founding to 1802, taking its name from the Biblical land of cedars. Early settlers were drawn to the region’s fertile land and mistook the abundant juniper trees for the famed cedars of Lebanon. Initially serving as a trading center for livestock and farm products, Lebanon witnessed minor skirmishes during the Civil War. The town continued to thrive, becoming home to Cumberland University in 1842.  Today, tourism plays a significant role in Lebanon’s economy, with visitors drawn to nearby recreational areas like Cedars of Lebanon State Park and attractions like Fiddlers Grove, which preserves local history.
